The Meaning of Yoga

Mandala option 1.JPG

Yoga comes from the sanskit term, yuj, which means unite. Classical yoga’s highest goal is to help you become enlightened by “uniting” your individual self with the Infinite or Divine.

Peace Core Studios offers you Hatha Yoga where you are taught physical postures to help calm and strengthen your mind, body and spirit. Hatha means balance in sanskrit and is a combination of the term ha, which means moon, and tha, which means sun.

Hatha Yoga Offerings

There are many different types of Hatha Yoga taught in the United States such as Vinyasa, Iyengar and Ashatanga. At Peace Core Studios, we offer four main types of Hatha Yoga:

  • Power

  • Vinyasa

  • Yin

  • Restorative

Below you’ll find a description of each and their key benefits:

Power Yoga

Power Yoga is a vigorous, athletic and challenging vinyasa style yoga. This offshoot of Ashtanga Yoga has many of the same qualities, namely increased strength, stamina and flexibility. Power Yoga does not involve a “set series” of postures, allowing teachers more creativity in designing unique sequences.

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa synchronizes your movements with breath, enabling you to flow from one asana to the next as if doing a dance. Often Vinyasa classes hold positions for several guided breaths, helping you safely deepen your stretch. With consistent practice, your Vinyasa classes will result in improved flexibility, peace of mind and greater balance.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a slow, soothing and meditative style of yoga practice that stretches and targets deep connective tissues between the muscles and facia throughout your body. With its ability to improve flexibility, increase circulation in your joints, and calm your mind, it’s the perfect way to balance out the more athletic “Yang” classes you may choose!

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga is the practice of asanas each held longer than a conventional yoga class. Props are a must in restorative classes since they assist in supporting your body while allowing you to surrend into a pose that can be safely held for 3-5 minutes. This type of yoga is perfect for anyone looking to reduce stress, balance the nervous system, develop compassion and give your immune system a boost!

Hot Yoga

In our Peace Studio, many of our classes are warmed to specific temperatures to help you achieve targeted wellness goals, be it weight loss in a Power Yoga class or relaxation in a Restorative Yoga class. To ensure wellness, we warm this room via Far Infrared Radiant (FIR) heating coves as opposed to conventional air heating. This unique system is proven to help deliver numerous health benefits.
